Totsi (2005)

The film Tsotsi (2005) tells a story about a teenage boy named Tsotsi who is involved in a lot of criminal activity. He is a thief, murderer, and causes a ton of mischief in his locate town. One night he steals a car from a very rich woman. While he is driving he notices a baby in the back seat. Tsotsi take the baby boy and tries to raise it on his own. While the family in which the baby boy belongs to looks for its child, Tsotsi tries to raise the boy on his own. Throughout this experience Tsotsi begins to mature and tries to get a away from his criminal life. Finally at the end of the film Tsotsi returns the baby boy to the original family and is arrested for his actions.
This movie follows two very important themes throughout the entire film. The themes are love, and change. The main protagonist Tsotsi shows love when he cares for the boy in which he has stole. He tries to support the child by any means. Each and everyday he tries to give the boy the life that he never had. Change is seen when Tsotsi finally becomes a better person by returning the child to his family at the end of the film. The entire film takes audiences through the change of the main character. The ups and downs of his life are shown, and the interaction with a homeless man teaches the Tsotsi's morality. These themes were a very important aspect of the film and helped make an impact among its viewers.

I really enjoyed this film a lot. I loved the character development that took place throughout the entire film. We witnessed a teenager change for the better. The more the film went on the audience learned more about Totsi’s back-story, for example the relationship with his father and why he ran away from home.  The next thing that made this movie enjoyable to watch was the camera angles. Each shot in this film had a purpose to the overall theme. During the robbery everything was fast pace to make the audience feel as the character did at this moment in time, nervous. Then in the more slow scenes like when the boy notices the baby in the back seat of the stolen car made audiences feel sorry for the baby boy and the situation that he was put in. Tsotsi (2005) had an excellent story and kept me interested the entire time. The characters were very strong as well as the acting throughout the film.  This was a very interesting film and I would recommend it to people who enjoy watching and appreciate cinema.
